PopSugar Reading Challenge 2023

This is the seventh PopSugar Reading Challenge I’ve participated in. These are some of my favorites due to how easy the challenge makes it to expand my reading interests.

About the PopSugar Reading Challenge 2023

The lifestyle website PopSugar creates a reading challenge every year. This is a high-effort reading challenging comprising 50 tasks across a variety of different prompt themes. While the tasks are numerous, they are not particularly difficult. The volume and variety offer a significant amount of flexibility for both diverse readers looking to further deepen their reading practice, as well as newly exploratory readers.

Some challenge participants use single books to fulfill multiple challenge tasks, but I allow just one task per book. Thus, for me, this is a 50-book challenge.

Why I’m doing the challenge

I have been doing the PopSugar Reading Challenge for six years now, since 2018. (That’s a long time!) Participating in PopSugar Reading Challenges has become an annual tradition.

What I enjoy most about the challenges are their creative tasks that cover a wide range of prompts and topics, such as genre, author background, and subject. I also like that some of the tasks are related to the anticipated literary releases in the year, which encourages me to stay up to date on new books and current conversations in the book world (and Bookstagram). 2023 was no exception.

My reading strategy for the PopSugar 2023 Reading Challenge

The PopSugar 2023 Reading Challenge was my primary reading challenge for 2023, as I made an intention choice to focus on making progress in one big challenge that year. Accordingly, I strategized nearly all my reading in 2023 to fulfill a PopSugar 2023 Reading Challenge task.

I did not expect to read 50 books in 2023, so I knew that my time to completion would likely span over a year. I focused first on completing challenge tasks that fit most naturally within my reading interests and opportunities.

My challenge progress

My goal for 2023 was to complete 80% of the challenge, reading 40 out of the 50 books required. By the end of 2023, I had accomplished my goal.

As of the first half of 2024, I have completed 84% of the PopSugar 2023 Reading Challenge.
